Department of Psychology and Pedagogy
The Department carries out educational and research activities in the field of pedagogy and psychology, provides practical assistance to subdivisions of internal affairs bodies in educational work with staff. Particular attention is paid to the training of highly qualified personnel (specialty "Legal Psychology").

Vitaliy Stukanov graduated with honors from the Mogilev State Pedagogical Institute named after A. Kuleshov. Then he worked as the head of the detachment, a psychologist in forced labor colonies. In 2002–2009 he served in senior positions in the Department for the Execution of Sentences of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus. In 2010–2012, he headed the criminal executive department of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
V. Stukanov is a leading specialist in the field of legal education, corrective pedagogy and legal psychology in the Republic of Belarus. He is the author of more than 130 scientific and educational works, including 4 monographs, the first textbook in the republic “Correctional Pedagogy”. He is a member of the editorial board of “The Bulletin of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs”, a scientific consultant to the journal “Narodnaya Asveta”. Besides, he is a member of the dissertation council for the defense of doctoral dissertations D 02.23.01 at the National Institute of Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, deputy head of the Scientific Section "Psychological and Pedagogical Sciences" of the State Expert Council No. 8 of the State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus.

In 1998 he graduated from the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in 2014 he finished the MA course of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Since 1994 he has served in law enforcement agencies. Before his transition to the Academy of the Interior Ministry (October 2015) he worked as the Head of the Department of Psychological and Technical Support for Crimes Solution of the Criminal Militia of the Central Department of Internal Affairs of Minsk City Executive Committee. In October 2015 he became the Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy.
He is a member of the interdepartmental group of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus on the use of the polygraph in criminal investigations, conducting screening studies and staff training for state bodies of the system of ensuring national security of the Republic of Belarus.

Department: History and Modern Period
The Department of Psychology and Pedagogy was founded in 1992 as a result of the transformation of the Minsk Higher School of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs into the Academy of Militia. A.Pastushenya became the Head of the Department. The Department provided teaching of a number of special psychological and pedagogical courses, including training the staff for the penitentiary system. Today the department has more than 50 academic courses, mostly for upgrading skills and retraining law enforcement managing staff.
A successive system of psychological and pedagogical courses has been developed for professional-psychological training of future law enforcement officers as well as retraining and advanced training of the law enforcement managing staff. According to this system all psychological courses are studied in consecutive order, starting with the basics of psychology and pedagogy during the first years of study, moving on to the study of professionally significant issues in legal psychology and ending with the study of special psychological courses depending on the specialization of future officers ("Detective Psychology", "Psychology in the Activities of Militia of Public Safety","Psychology of Investigative Activities", "Correctional psychology"). The complex of educational courses is also offered to students at the second stage of higher education (during the MA course).
All courses of the Department are equipped with electronic educational and methodological complexes. The Department retrains specialists in such specialties as "Practical Psychology in the Field of Law Enforcement", "Educational Work with Convicts" (training of correctional facilities staff) and "Psychological and Technical Support of Detective Activity" (training of polygraph examiners for internal affairs bodies).
The teaching staff of the Department is regularly involved in conducting classes with personnel of law enforcement agencies and units, ministries and departments of the Republic of Belarus in the field of legal psychology, management psychology, psychology of official work (labor), conflictology, psychology of communication, influence of psychology as well as moral and psychological readiness of personnel (personnel of the organization) to solve operational and service tasks in any condition or situation; carrying out psychophysiological studies using polygraph devices; stress-resistance and emotional-volitional burnout of employees.
Much attention is paid to cultural and creative development of cadets. The Department and its Professor V.L. Golubev organize the students’ annual international oratorical competition "Tsitseronij".
Different innovative methods of teaching are regularly introduced into the educational process such as binary lectures, group sessions with elements of psychological trainings and others. The Department has the required educational and scientific potential for further improvement of its activities.
The staff of the Department systematically participates in research activities.
The Department is the organizer of a series of republican and international scientific and practical conferences, among them: "Non-Traditional Methods, Ways of Crime Solution and Investigation", "Actual Problems of Crisis Psychology in Law Enforcement Activity", "Psychological, Pedagogical and Ethical Aspects of Personality Formation Law Enforcement Officers", "Topical Psychological Problems in Law Enforcement Activities", "Psychological Aspects of Improvement of Law Enforcement Activity", "Actual Psychological Problems of Improvement of Law Enforcement Activity".
